The Shade Tree Shelter

The Shade Tree Shelter population receives an 8-week cycle of the I AM Powerful program as a closed group; fostering an increase sense of safety and trust, long been stripped from these women through incredibly rough experiences. All the women in this shelter are homeless, many of them suffering from mental health, addictions and victims of domestic violence, assault and sexual assault/rape. All women who complete the 8-week program attend aftercare programming once a week. Whether or not they still reside in the Shade Tree Shelter, women are invited to attend and continue their work in the I AM Powerful program long after they've begun to rebuild their lives outside of the shelter.

The Youth Offenders Court

The Youth Offenders Court is a drug court in the court room of the honorable Judge Cedric Kerns. This one-of-a-kind program will soon be offering the I AM Powerful program to both offenders and their families. Judge Kerns and the design of the Youth Offenders program aligns brilliantly with the I AM Powerful program's commitment to, and focus on, responsibility and sustainability. In order to be accepted into the Youth Offenders Court and be offered court ordered diversion programming, such as I AM Powerful, the families must also make the same commitments as the offenders. Judge Kerns understands that to have long term sustainable results the entire generational cycle must shift. I AM Powerful will be provided to both offenders and their families in the 8-week base program and as an on-going aftercare program both in gender specific, mixed group and integrated family/offender formats.

UNLV Researcher Dr. An-Pyng Sun, Ph.D.

Dr. Sun serves as a professor in the school of social work, teaching the Treatment of Addictions, Cross Cutting Issues in Child Welfare, (Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Domestic Violence), and Social Work Research Methods. She serves on several committees and sub-committees in Southern Nevada and UNLV. Dr. Sun is extremely well published and most of all dedicated to improving the experience of society and most of all the lives of Southern Nevadan's.

Partnering together Dr. Sun and the Power Integration Center will research the programming effectiveness and outcomes of our flagship program I AM Powerful, created by author and speaker ShannonRae. The research will focus on the populations served in a local homeless/domestic violence shelter The Shade Tree Shelter, and a unique, one-of-a-kind Drug Court with Judge Cedric Kerns, The Youth Offenders Court.
